A fire pump is part of the water supply for a fire sprinkler system and is powered by electricity, diesel or steam. It uses water from an external source to increase water flow and pressure. The pump inlet is either connected to a public groundwater supply line or to a static water source. The pump provides higher pressure water flow to the sprinkler system risers and hose risers. Fire pumps must be tested monthly and annually to ensure they are operating as designed. These two different tests are called the monthly “churn” test and the annual flow test.

What is a jockey pump? While its name may remind you of one of those little guys that tells a race horse where to go, a jockey pump is actually used to maintain a high pressure in a fire suppression system.

Fire pumps are necessary when the water supply available does not generate the necessary hydraulic pressure required to meet demand of a fire protection system such as automatic sprinklers and standpipes, or even foam systems.

Single stage centrifugal pump includes pump body, pump cover, motor with output shaft, pump shaft, bearing seat, impeller, mechanical seal and mechanical seal gland installed in the pump body, which are connected with the motor through extended elastic coupling. The rotation direction of the pump, viewed from the driving end, is clockwise. Wanfulong is characterized in that it also includes a clip on coupling arranged between the motor output shaft and the pump shaft, and a guide bearing installed on the bearing seat to assist in supporting the pump shaft; The wafer type coupling is rigidly connected with the motor output shaft and the pump shaft respectively, and a space distance is left between the motor output shaft and the pump shaft to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of the mechanical seal and the mechanical seal gland. Prior to installation, fire sprinkler systems are hydraulically calculated to ensure adequate water flow and that the system can reliably suppress a fire until fire crews arrive. When it is determined that there is insufficient flow from a municipal supply for the system to function properly, a fire pump is installed. The fire pump activates when the sprinkler system pressure falls below a certain threshold as a result of sprinkler head operation.
