Vertical turbine pumps are centrifugal pumps specially designed to pump water from underground wells or reservoirs. They are also known as deep well turbo pumps. The electric motor of a vertical turbo pump is above ground and is connected to the impeller at the bottom of the pump by a long vertical shaft. Vertical turbo pumps are mainly used where submersible pumps cannot be used.
Vertical turbo pumps have flow rates ranging from approximately 30gpm to 5000gpm and beyond. Because pumps can be built with one or more stages, the amount of head produced can be customized. These advantages make it one of the most common types of centrifugal pumps.
